WeWantSounds' reissue of Makoto Kubota & the Sunset Gang's Sunset Gang LP. Originally recorded in 1973, it was co-produced by Kinji Yoshino (Haruomi Hosono, Akiko Yano, Sachiko Kanenobu) and features Hosono, Minako Yoshida and Taeko Ohnuki. This pressing was remastered by Makoto Kubota himself and features original artwork with OBI, and a four-page insert.
Having just recorded Machibouke, Kubota used this LP to begin his exploration of R&B, Blues, New Orleans and tropical influences alongside his Japanese roots. Sunset Gang documents Makoto as he digs into the possibilities and writes some excellent songs along the way. You may not expect the blues to be sung in Japanese, but it does sound good.
