Joe Henderson became famous worldwide for his work on Blue Note. Since the late 1960s, he has released a series of works that put blackness at the forefront, based at Milestone. In the midst of this, in the summer of 1971, Joe Henderson came to Japan alone and delighted Japanese audiences. The five-day consecutive performance at Ginza Junk was one of the climaxes of his visit. This album, Henderson's Habiliment, records that night. The powerful, emotional, and lustrous performance is a masterpiece. The Japanese musicians who performed with him, Hideo Ichikawa, Kunimitsu Inaba, and Motohiko Hino, also performed with exceptional energy. Starting with the menacing "Junk Blues," the sonorous "'Round About Midnight," the deeper "Blue Bossa," and the hip and beautiful "Black Narcissus," which was not included on the American version of "In Japan," the album is full of so much that it's almost bursting with content. Joe Henderson, beloved by the world, left a huge mark on Japan. His masterpiece is now revived. [text by Yusuke Ogawa (UNIVERSOUNDS / DEEP JAZZ REALITY)]
