The name Brian Eno can trigger a lot of different reactions among music fans. As the producer of Talking Heads, U2 and Coldplay, an early member of Roxy Music and key creator of ambient music, Eno has had numerous impacts on popular music in numerous fashions. These credits can be a reason for some people to dig into his catalog and for others a reason to stay away. Or maybe you're sick of people like this author talking a little too much about him.
Originally released in 1977, Cluster & Eno is an instrumental/ambient album that bears Eno's fingerprints, but has Cluster front and center. Ho Remono, the first song on the LP, serves as a statement of sorts. It feels like an Eno work, but Moebius and Roedelius' skills as musicians provide piano and numerous instrumental sounds that build atmosphere. Can's Holger Czukay plays bass on this track, rounding out the all star lineup. While this is labeled as ambient, it is not passive.
Throughout this LP, the combination of Cluster's and Eno's styles meld together resulting in a wonderful LP. This 2016 rerelease by the Bureau B label in Germany, sounds great and captures the magic that happened in these sessions.
