A re-release of Ryuichi Sakamoto's 1981 7" single of Computer Obaachan (Computer Grandma) with a B-Side of Photo Musik. Computer Obaachan was written as a theme song for an NHK program and sounds like it, in an upbeat way. Photo Musik is a more measured track, that wouldn't sound out of place on a YMO LP.
The YMO comparison is apt, as this did come out in 1981 and Sakamoto enlisted YMO bandmate Yukihiro Takehashi to play drums. Sakamoto himself produced, arranged and performed these songs (except for the aforementioned drums). This 7" is a great addition to the collection of almost every YMO fan. It gives the hardcore fans something similar but not YMO to listen to, while also allowing newcomers to get a feel for the Sakamoto contributions on YMO LPs.
That said, we know this is a lot for a 7" single. We get it if you take a pass, it's cool. We used to pay $3 for singles at punk shows, so over 11x that is sticker shock for us too.
